48x cards with image and phrase on each card, and an introductory booklet.

Package Weight: 0.17kg

All words are specifically selected to cover a broad range of strengths which are easily understandable, especially if being used with young people, making the cards useful for a wide range of people, situations, and geography.

There are no specific instructions as how to use the cards, as they are open to interpretation and are very flexible to use. The introductory booklet includes some ideas for exercises, and you can find more ideas in the downloads sections. Activity Examples

Personal Reflection

Focusing on one particular aspect of your life, sort through the word side of the cards and pick the ones which describe you at your absolute best. Aim for 5-8 cards. Use them to reflect on which strength you show most often, and how does it relate to key points in your life.

Team Strengths

Ask the team to pick a photo each which best describes the team's strength and why. Build on the discussion and relate to certain circumstances and challenges, and how the team can be at their best more.

What research is behind the cards?

We’ve listed some of the key research findings to explain why we think you should focus on strengths

Research shows that if we understand our strengths and have the opportunity to use them on a regular basis we benefit significantly. Not only are we more likely to achieve our goals if we focus on our strengths, but we also improve faster in areas where we are already strong than in our areas of weakness. But more than that, the benefits extend to our teams and our organisations. For example there is evidence to show that:

  •  Strengths-based development leads to higher levels of employee engagement.
  •  Staff are more likely to be actively disengaged if their manager focuses on their weaknesses rather than their strengths
  •  Strengths-based development interventions increase productivity.
  •  Managers who emphasise strengths unlock higher performance from their employees.

The benefits extend to improving our levels of happiness and wellbeing

Using your strengths at work has other benefits too. It seems that using your strengths every day leads to higher levels of happiness, lower levels of depression and increased life satisfaction. That’s important because research has found, among other things, happier people are more likely to have:

  • • Better work performance and more professional success
  • • Higher incomes and more financial success
  • • More altruism and social and community involvement
  • • More fulfilling marriages and relationships
  • • Better health and longer life
