The Meaning Making Module is our second Learning to Learn module which provides all the materials and activities to run your own half-day workshop to develop capable and effective learners by understanding and strengthening their learning skills.

The Meaning Making Module focuses on helping individuals to build creative problem solving and innovative thinking skills in linking different concepts together and seeing the 'bigger picture'.

The module can be run independently or in combination with our other six modules focusing on Learning to Learn Skills. All seven can be bought at a discounted price here.

Activity Overview

Learning is an active and demanding process. Learning offers challenge, enjoyment and reward but also demands effort and resilience. The ability to learn is crucial to our success in education, in employment and in building satisfying social and professional relationships.

The Meaning Making Module focuses on helping individuals to build creative problem solving and innovative thinking skills in linking different concepts together and seeing the 'bigger picture'. It identifies specific and relevant actions, behaviours and strategies used by those who have developed this aspect of learning power.

In a world where accumulating information and facts is easy, meaning making, and making connections to productively use acquired information is a key skill. This workshop contains practical activities that small teams (up to 16 people) can practice together, supported by a trainer or facilitator. Everything required to complete a 2 hour work module on Meaning Making is included.

This module is one of seven other modules within our Learning to Learn Module Package about how we, as individuals, advance and strengthen our learning power.   • 0 - 5 minutes: Introductions & definitions. What do we mean by ‘Meaning Making’?
  • 5 - 20 minutes: Making Connections.
  • 15 - 20 minutes: Learning to use metaphor to make new connections.
  • 20 - 50 minutes: Forcing connections to trigger new learning
  • 50 - 80 minutes: Workstations
  • 80 - 95 minutes: Learning review
  • 95 - 115 minutes: Making Meaning is more than just making sense of the words
  • 115 - 120 minutes: Summary & Learning review
