Activity Description

Activity Contents:

1.8m x 2.4m carpet grid & pinned programme control panel & facilitator guide

Package Weight: 32kg

The maze is a highly motivating learning device that consists of a grid and a control module. The grid is a flexible carpeted mat that is divided into 48 squares. Each square has a pressure-sensitive switch. If the square is activated, and if someone steps on it, the maze alarm sounds. You can activate and deactivate any square on the maze with the control module.

The maze, and the other learning devices produced by Interel, can be thought of as learning hardware. Using a computer analogy, the maze can be programmed with learning software for different learning applications. The manual explains how to install, program, and take down the hardware, and it provides software for a variety of learning applications. The hardware itself is easily programmable, and flexible by moving the pins on the switchboard which mirrors the activated squares on the grid.

Still mazing after all these years !Review by GLA

I have used a version of the Electric Maze for more years than I care to remember - but many years, and many teams, and many clients later, I still do not know of piece of kit that provides the learning, the sudden awareness and the flexibility that the Maze does.
I am still discovering ways of using it to help different teams in different business and learning situations - I wouldn't be without it. (Posted on 24/10/2016)

BMW, the Maze, and MeReview by Roland

It must have been in 1994—I was doing management training for BMW. They had just bought Rover and teambuilding among managers of different nationalities (and therefore different cultures) was high on their priority list. Also, the plant in Spartanburg, USA, began delivering the first vehicles.

At one of my two-week-seminars at the Bavarian training center of BMW the chief financial officer of BMW Korea was present. We used the Electric Maze intensively: Decision Making in Groups, Intercultural Differences and, above all, Dealing with Change were among the applications. One whole day was dedicated to always changing exercises with the Maze. And whenever participants thought that we had exhausted the possibilities of the Maze there came a new challenge.
I'm still using the same Electric Maze to this day—and it has never failed me!

It was the spring of 1987 when I was first exposed to the magic of the Electric Maze®. I was attending a workshop at the Pecos River Learning Center located outside Santa Fe, New Mexico in the Pecos wilderness. The moment I saw it and experienced it, I sensed incredible potential. My primary work is as a facilitator and trainer, working primarily with senior executives in private, public and not-for-profit corporations on four continents. What I loved about the Maze, was the rich metaphors it provided for meaningful debriefing and transfer of learning into a variety of corporate settings.
